You know what QR Code batch generation is and you want to create QR Codes in bulk. But what you also want is—to customise the design of your QR Codes.
And you’re right to do it. Personalised QR Codes attract more scans than plain black-and-white ones. This is because branded QR Codes differentiate themselves from standard QR Codes.
With a branded QR Code, a user knows that the QR Code is a point-of-engagement. And not just ‘some barcode added for official use’.
Now black-and-white QR Codes might work for operational use cases. But for promotional use cases, custom-designed QR Codes work far better.
While you can use a QR Code designing tool to generate branded QR Codes one-by-one, you will need an advanced bulk QR Code generator to create QR Codes with logos in large numbers.
By custom design or branded QR Codes, we mean you can customise the following QR Code elements:
a. Eyes
b. Data pattern
c. Background
The two types of QR Code designs
Different QR Code generators have varying QR Code designing capabilities. But the two main categories of QR Code designs are:
a. QR Code with logo in the centre
You would’ve seen this QR Code design already. It has a logo in the centre.
Here’s how it transforms your QR Code:
A custom logo design helps you personalize your QR Code by:
i. Changing color and pattern of eyes
ii. Changing color and pattern of data modules
iii. Adding a logo
iv. Changing the background color
How does a custom logo QR Code remain scannable
Did you notice that a few data modules are removed to accommodate the logo in the centre? And the QR Code is still scannable.
This is because QR Codes have ‘error correction’. Error correction helps QR Codes remain scannable even if they’re damaged up to 30%.
The level of damage depends upon the level of error correction applied: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%).
Note: In the case of the uploaded logo, error correction will be set automatically to ensure scannability.
b. QR Code with image as background
This design option uses an image as the background and adds the QR Code to it. It is best suited if you want to merge the QR Code with your print media creatives.
Here’s a comparison between a black-and-white QR Code and a Custom background QR Code:
Custom background design allows you to:
i. Add an image in the background
ii. Change the pattern of eyes
iii. Change the pattern of data modules
Note that this design doesn’t allow you change the color of eyes/data modules.
How does custom background QR Code remain scannable
By using only black-and-white colors in eyes and data pattern, it ensures that there’s enough contrast among QR Code elements and the background. Hence, the QR Code remains scannable.
Also, unlike a custom logo design QR Code, a custom background QR Code doesn’t remove data patterns. So you can keep the error correction level low.
To create a batch of QR Codes with a logo, you’ll need a bulk QR Code generator with logo such as QR Batch.
How to generate Static QR Codes in large numbers with a logo
For the uninitiated, here is how you can generate QR Codes in bulk. Here is a quick recap:
a. Create a data file containing all the information you need to encode in the QR Code
b. Go to QR Batch and sign-up
c. Select the QR Code category based on what content you want your end-users to see. Next, upload the spreadsheet and click Review Data
d. On the page that loads, match the columns with those in the spreadsheet from the drop-down menu and click Confirm
e. Once you’ve reviewed the data, click Next
f. Now you’ll see three design options. You can proceed with the one you like
g. After finalizing the design, click Select
h. A window will open prompting you to name the QR Code Batch and specify the export options (size and format)
i. Now, click Proceed To Payment. Once you complete it, your batch of QR Codes will start getting processed
j. After completing the process, you’ll receive an email attached with a zip file containing the QR Codes.
In addition, you can also download the batch from the My Batches section in the dashboard.
That’s it. Your QR Codes will be downloaded and ready for use.
Here we’ll discuss in detail—how to add design to QR Codes using QR Batch.
Once you upload data file and review the data, you’ll see three QR Code design options:
i. Standard black-and-white
ii. Custom logo design
iii. Custom background design
Here’s how you can customize each of the two QR Code design options:
a. Design Custom Logo QR Code
This design option helps you customize your QR Code by adding an image in the centre. Here’s how:
1. Add a logo
Click on Customize button under Custom logo design option. You’ll be redirected to the Logo tab.
Click Add new image to add your brand’s logo/image.
Once it is uploaded, you can increase/decrease the size of your logo within the QR Code with Size option.
Once you add the logo and adjust its size, don’t forget to adjust the error correction. It is recommended that you choose Q or H level of error correction while creating custom logo QR Codes.
Note: In case, you’ve uploaded a logo, the level of error correction will be set automatically to ensure scannability.
2. Change color/pattern of eyes
Once you’re done adding the logo, click Eyes option present next to the logo tab.
Using the first option—Change color, you can use drop-down option to change the color of:
- Inner eye
- Outer eye
- All eyes
What you need to do here is: Select the appropriate option from the drop-down options and select the color from color palette (or enter the hexcode).
Next you can use Choose Pattern option to change the pattern of QR Code eyes.
3. Change color/pattern of data modules
After you customize the eyes, click Data present next to the Eyes tab.
Click Choose Color to change the color of data modules. You just need to select the color from the color palette (or enter the hexcode).
Here you can even choose the gradient options available and specify the required colors.
Once you’re done with specifying the colors, you can change the data pattern using Choose Pattern option. Simply click on the data pattern you like and see if it looks good on your QR Code design.
4. Add background color
If you want to add a color to the background of your QR Code design, click Background next to the Data tab.
Under Choose Color option, you can choose a color from the palette. Or you can enter the color hexcode.
In addition to this, you can also make the background transparent.
Note: Make sure that your background has enough contrast with QR Code elements. It is important to maintain good scannability for the QR Code.
If your QR Code elements are dark colored, use a lighter shade in the background and vice-versa.
This will ensure that your QR Code remains scannable.
Once you’ve finished designing the QR Code, click Select Design.
b. Design Custom Background design QR Code
With this design option, you can use an image as the background of your QR Code. Click Customize option under Custom background design option.
Next, follow these steps:
1. Add a background image
As you click Customize option, you’ll be redirected to the Image tab.
Click Add New Image to upload your image. Once it gets uploaded, you can adjust the position and size of the QR Code on your image.
Click Preview option to preview your QR Code. In case you want to change your QR Code position, click Reposition and adjust your QR Code.
2. Change data pattern
Once you’re done uploading and adjusting the logo, click Data present next to the Logo tab.
Here you’ll see four data pattern options to choose from. Select the one that suits your QR Code design the best.
3. Change eye pattern
To change the pattern of QR Code eyes, click Eyes present next to the Data tab.
You’ll see various different eye patterns to choose from. Select the one that fits your QR Code design the best.
Note that Custom background design doesn’t allow you change the color of QR Code elements (eyes and data modules).
Once your QR Code design is ready, click Select Design.
Now that you’ve designed your QR Code, proceed further to make payment.
As you complete the payment, your QR Code batch will be ready to download (typically within a few minutes). However, for large number of QR Codes (say in thousands), it can even take more than an hour.
That’s all you need to know about how to use a bulk QR Code generator with logo. You can now create customized QR Codes in bulk within a short period of time.
